Flora By Laura Wedding & Event Floral Design

My Story

I was born into a creative family – musicians, chefs – we were made to be hands-on. So it’s no real wonder I found little satisfaction in any of the corporate office jobs I’d initially held. I turned to my lovely Mum for guidance and took her advice to give floral design a shot. Mum was right. Almost ten years on and I haven’t looked back.

With a Certificate III in Floristry under my belt, I went on to learn a multitude of styles working for a number of top-end florists locally, and overseas. Through early starts, long hours and sore hands, I fell in love with the job and knew I had found my calling.

After growing up in Sydney, I now reside on the Central Coast with my husband and daughter. My work focuses on weddings across the Coast and Hunter Valley, getting to work with some of my favourite rustic venues, and discovering more beauties as I go. It’s a wonderful thing getting to know couples and designing a concept that resembles who they are and what they love for one of the most special days of their lives. The atmosphere is an incredible thing to be a part of on the day, the energy is contagious, and it’s one of the reasons I love my job as much as I do.

“Let the beauty of what you love be what we do”
– Rumi

My Flowers

My style focuses on the perfect combination of colours and textures. Colours for impact and depth. Textures for interest and intricacy.
I source a variety of seasonal flowers, which are further contrasted with a mixture of foliage, chosen for their colour, size and silhouette. I love arrangements that have their own unique twist so I design with flowers and foliage of diverse shapes and sizes, one-dimensional wouldn’t really be my thing. Whether bold and bright or pretty and pastel, colour is my happiness and I love coming up with creative colour palettes that leave a lasting impression.

“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”
– Georgia O’Keefe
